13 Things People Love in Childhood That They Hate as Adults

Written By Wise Healthy n Wealthy

Speaking of generation gaps, the internet has uncovered a list of things that are beloved by today’s children but leave Boomers less than impressed. Let’s explore the top 13 responses:

13. “Sugar.”

I still want to eat sugary stuff like pastries, except now I feel guilt everytime I eat it. I miss when I wouldn’t care and just enjoy those delicious treats 🙁

“This. As a kid I would sneak to grab a piece of chocolate. But now I only like dark chocolate with almost no sugar. And I especially dislike sweetened drinks.”

“I loved the fact that my sweet tooth decreased when I got older. It’s so much easier to maintain a healthy weight when you can only tolerate a few bites of sweets a few times a month.”

12. “Snow.”

“Great fun to play in as a child, huge chore to deal with now.”

“As a former prairie girl who just moved to the west coast, I will take ALL the rain over COLD, COLD, COLD snowy winters.”

11. “Frozen pizzas and instant noodles.”

“I would eat that s*** daily, but nowadays a frozen pizza feels like a slice of sadness and disappointment, whereas instant noodles won’t even go through my throat.”

“Frozen pizza is hit or miss. Some brands are better than others and same goes for instant ramen. As a kid I really liked those “westernized” brands with the chicken flavoring and really thin noodles but now I’ve become a devoted advocate of Shin Ramyun and basically everything made by the brands of Samyang and Nongshim.”

10. “Carnival rides.”

“Used to love ‘em as a kid. Now I can’t get on the tilt-a-whirl without getting super sick.”

“Man, I used to LOVE the Scrambler at fairs. Went on one a few years ago, and my neck just hurt for days lol. G-forces tryna yank my lollipop head right off! Kind of a depressing “I’m-getting-old” moment for me.’”

9. “Spending the night at someone else’s house.”

“Totally, I have a friend who lives about an hour away (via public transit) and whenever I go to visit her and we go out for drinks, she says I can stay over. Even if it’s 2am, I always choose to pay for the 47-minute Uber ride home so I can sleep in my own bed and wake up in my own house!”

“Even when I travel, I hate staying in someone’s home. Always hotel.”

8. “Talking on the phone.”

“Used to stay on the phone for hours at a time three-way calling with friends. Now the idea of my phone ringing makes me want to puke.”

“A friend yesterday called me just to chat, and it was so weird to me. I can’t remember the last time I talked on the phone without an express purpose.”

7. “Growing up.”

“Couldn’t wait to grow up when I was a kid, but dread getting older now.”

“Aging past 40 has filled me with existential dread. I never thought that I would hate birthdays. I really hate birthdays now.”

“When you’re 13 you want to be 16. When you’re 16 you want to be 18. When you’re 18 you want to be 21. And when you’re 21+ you want to be a kid again.”

6. “The thought of having a job.”

“Or the thought of progressing to the next stage of your life.”

“I once remarked to my mom that going to work was so much better than going to school, because you get paid for it. She laughed at me and told me one day I’d miss being in school. Mom’s always right.”

5. “Staying home on a sick day.”

“As a kid it was a huge victory, got to stay in bed all day, watch TV, and having a parent tend to your every need. Then as an adult you’re just thinking about the work you’re gonna have to make up for and how you hope you don’t need to go to a doctor.”

4. “Spinning.”

“As a kid I would basically t-pose and spin in place for fun. I’d get dizzy for a few seconds and then I’d be back to normal. Now, if I did that, I’d feel nauseous for the rest of the day, would probably have to lie down for a few hours.”

“I feel the same about a trampoline. As a kid, who doesn’t want a trampoline?! Now we have one I can’t jump on it because it makes me feel nauseous.”

3. “Making new friends.”

“So much easier when you are still a kid.”

“Also, sustaining friendships when all your friends are married, have kids, in serious relationships, demanding careers/jobs, or are simply too busy. Seems everybody is so busy we start to forget to connect, even if it’s just for a cup of coffee. Hell, I gotta ask people at least a week ahead of time to hang out, sometimes more. I also miss the days of hanging out on a whim, like when I was in my teenager/early 20’s.”

2. “Swimming in public pools.”

“Yeah I see public pools as pretty gross now. Guaranteed to be full of **** and kid’s snot.”

“Honestly, as a kid I was so judgmental of all the moms who’d bring their kids to the pool and wear bathing suits but never get in. Was all like “I’ll never be like that.” Now I’m starting to understand.”

1. “Getting emails.”

“I was in college when I got an email address – was super excited to get an email. Now, I hate getting them because it’s either a stupid meeting or something I have to do/address at work.”

“Agree. Even regular mail. It usually is junk or a bill…but email is a bittersweet bane. 24 hours a day.”
