Did you know that Walt Disney was not the creator of the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?

Yes, the movie was released in 1937 as the first feature-length (80-minute) animated film ever made. And it still ranks on many lists as one of the greatest of all time.

But to get to the original story, we need to travel back to Germany in the early 1800s.

This is when two young brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, began working with a folklorist named Clemens Brentano to collect stories from the German people.

Brentano never made a move to publish any of these tales, so the brothers Grimm took the project upon themselves.

In 1812, they published the first edition of their now-famous fairy tales — which is ironic considering there’s not a single fairy in any of the stories.

What was in the first edition (and every edition published afterwards) was the story of “Schneewittchen” or “Little Snow White.”

In 1912, American theatre director Winthrop Ames wrote a script of Snow White and presented it at his Little Theatre as a special children’s show.

In his script, he not only gave each dwarf a unique personality and bigger role but also a name of their own.

3. Grumpy

4. Bashful

Who’s the dwarf who always blushes and tries to hide behind his bushy beard? If you guessed Bashful, you’re correct!

The true romantic (and introvert) of the group, it’s clear that Bashful has a big crush on Snow White. Unfortunately for him, she only has eyes for the handsome Prince.

6. Sneezy
